VISITORS

Am I welcome here?

Yes! As we gather at Christ’s table each week, the minister says, “This is Christ’s table, it is not our own. All who love the Christ and who long to love him more are welcome here” and that is what we strive to live out in community. Whatever your history and wherever you are on your spiritual journey, we hope to be a place where you feel welcome to worship, serve, explore, and question.

Where are you located?

The city of Brookhaven is located just north of Buckhead. Our church is located at the corner of Peachtree Road and Lanier Dr., between Oglethorpe University and Patterson’s Funeral Home. The address is 4500 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30319. If the front parking lot is full, there are additional spaces behind the church. We also use the parking lot at Patterson’s funeral home for overflow parking, so feel free to park there as well.

When should I arrive?

We have Small Groups and Sunday School for all ages beginning at 9:30 a.m., and Worship begins at 11:00 a.m.

What should I wear?

Wear whatever you'd like. You'll see people in blue jeans sitting beside people with slacks and golf shirts, while some people prefer to “dress up” for church. There is no dress code, official or otherwise. Just be yourself.

What will the service be like?

Our worship service lasts about an hour. Most Sundays, worship takes place in our sanctuary in a more traditional setting. On the second Sunday of the month, we worship together in our fellowship hall in a media and arts-infused worship setting. In both services, we read scripture, pray with one another, and usually have a sermon or message. We also take communion each week. Anyone is welcome to take communion if you choose. We sing music in a variety of styles and we frequently use drama and other types of artistic presentations in our worship.

What's available for my kids?

We have programs for children of all ages during Sunday School and worship, as well as other opportunities for learning, worship, and service throughout the year. During Sunday school and worship, we offer free childcare for children three and under. Our nursery is staffed by professional childcare workers. We offer a special worship experience, called Children Worship and Wonder, for children between the ages of 3 to 9, who are potty-trained. Children begin worship in the sanctuary with their parents and then leave for Children Worship and Wonder after the children’s sermon.

What do you believe?

While we hold many things in common as congregations and as individuals, you'll find that as Disciples of Christ, many of us come from diverse areas on the theological map. We believe that those differences don't divide us, but make us a stronger church. When people wish to join our church, we only ask one question: “Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, Savior and Lord?” We believe that everything else gets worked out in community.

Will anyone bother me during or after I visit?

We go to great lengths to ensure you feel welcome at Brookhaven Christian Church. We will be pleased to have you, but will not embarrass you or single you out in any fashion. If you leave us contact information on the attendance sheet attached to your bulletin on Sunday morning, we will try to follow up with you on your visit by email or phone. But we will not come knock on your door and we won't annoy you or try to intrude on your busy life. We also welcome you to ask questions of anyone in our congregation or contact one of ministers if you want more information.

How do I get involved?

Volunteer and ministry opportunities are advertised throughout the year. Twice a year we offer BCC 101, which is led by the senior minister. This class helps you get to know Brookhaven Christian Church, including its history, the Disciples of Christ, church membership, our ministries, and who we are as a community of faith. We would love for you to join us!
