I have been thinking a lot about transitions lately. Those changes that sometimes are planned, sometimes not, but that serve to change our world dramatically when they occur. Sometimes they are welcomed, sometimes they strike terror in our hearts, some are accidental, some are inevitable. No matter what we do, we will face times of transition in our lives.
The key is how we deal with these transitions. No one will react the same in every situation, but one thing is constant: our need to celebrate, commiserate, grieve and vent with those around us. For those of us who are members of a faith community, our brothers and sisters that share our faith walk will be the ones who are most likely to be there for us. They are there for us through their presence and their prayers. And do not underestimate just how important our simple presence and our simple prayers can be!
In that spirit, there are some folks who are and will be facing times of transition that we should keep close:
Those who are the caregivers for aging parents and relatives. This can be a most stressful and trying time as the generations deal with transitions that come with age. Please keep all these folks in your prayers.
Those who grieve the tragic and sudden loss of loved ones. The Randle Family of Atlanta recently lost 3 members of their family and a fourth is in critical condition from a car accident. The survivors can be helped in this awful time of transition with the Randle Family Memorial Fund, Georgia Trust Bank, 2725 Mall of Georgia Blvd., Buford, GA 30519
All our graduating seniors from high schools and college and graduate schools. Do you know someone who is about to graduate and make a big transition in their life? Then let us know so we can honor them properly during worship on May 18th.
Folks like our own Judy Mowrey who is about to make the transition into retirement. For some this is a difficult transition to make, for some it is a welcome change. We hope for nothing but the best for our friend Judy. If you would like to help honor Judy for her work here over the last couple of decades, please make plans to attend a dinner in her honor on Saturday May 10th. There will be more information coming later this week and in worship this Sunday, so mark your calendar now.
People who are seeking a church home because they are moving to a new place, or just feel led to seek out the connection that comes with being part of faith community. If you are one of those in transition to a new church home, we will be conducting an “Inquirers Class” on Sunday May 4, Sunday May 11 and Sunday May 18 during the Sunday school hour. If you know someone who is looking to learn more about what it means to be part of Brookhaven Christian Church, let them know.
There are so many transitions in our lives…so many ups and downs, twists and turns. We cannot always predict when they will come, but one thing is certain, with God at the center of what we do and with faithful companions beside us, we can face anything!

Carol and I will be traveling this weekend to Rhode Island to spend time with her father who is hospitalized there. Please pray for traveling mercies and for recovery for Ernie Martin.
I hope you can make it to worship this Sunday when Rev. Jennifer preaches a sermon entitled “Looking Toward the Future”. The scripture lesson is Deuteronomy 32:45-47 and 34: 1-12.
